What can we do about a car dealership who won’t give us a car back after repossessing it by mistake?
We purchased a car 3 months ago and paid the majority of money down, with only 4 mothly payments left through their financing company. We paid every month early but yesterday at 5 am out of the blue, they came and repo’d our car,. They said we hadn’t made the last payment and that he had an order to take it. We called police but he had taken it and left by the time they arrived. We drove 2.5 hours to dealership yesterday morning and were told it was a bookkeeping error so we were given $50 credit towards next paymeandt but we went ahead & paid it off. They said they’d have it towed back home but we still don’t have it. Anything we can do?

If your car that you were making payments on was repossessed improperly due to a book keeper's error by the lender and you have still have not received its return, I would contact an attorney that practices in the area of consumer law to see what your legal recourse is in terms of damages, for example, fair daily rental for it while in possession of the lender's agent. If you have paid off the loan on the car, you are entitled to its return immediately.
