I want to excercise my visitation rights. I can’t seem to get a hold of his family either.

Since you seem to be locked out of your child's life I suggest that you consult with a family law attorney to discuss your legal options for filing a petition with the court seeking an order mandating that your visitation be adhered to. Given what you have written about such seems to be the only way you will be able to see your child.
