we bought rentl property from a seller who had a contract with nh housing author.and an existing tenant. we accepted responsibility of the lease previously entered into by the previous owner and nh housing authority. the tenant is now claiming 5 years later we the buyer did not have a lease with her.

Usually when the housing authority does an annual inspection and renews a lease with a tenant, notice is sent to the owner and/or property management. The lease is between the tenant and owner (landlord) indicating the rent due under the lease and the date of expiration of the lease. You should have notices from the housing authority listing you as the owner (landlord).

Contact the NH housing authority and make sure that the paperwork regarding this tenant and your role as the owner/landlord is correct.
