What to do if I went to the ER for a problem with my back 3 years ago but while in the emergency room they gave me medication that I was allergic to?
Question Details: I ended up in intensive care unit for 2 1/2 days. Medicare paid $39,051.49 for the bill. However, why should Medicare be billed for this since it was the fault for the hospital that I ended up in intensive care?
Medicare could have sued the hospital to recover the money, if Medicare believed it was due to hospital negligence. If Medicare paid, not you, then it's Medicare's issue, not yours. You could inform Medicare of your thoughts; they could then choose to try to pursue matters, if they want.
