The National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) is a federal law that governs how employers may treat employees who are involved in protected labor activities. This law protects the right of employees to strike and prohibits employers from firing them for exercising that right. That having been said, protection only covers strikes that are lawful. For example, those that protest low wages, hazardous working conditions and/or unfair labor practices. Workers who participate in unlawful strikes can be legally terminated. Some examples of unlawful strikes include those which violate a no-strike clause in an employment contract or are violent or block persons from entering a business.
