The person was negligent (unreasonably careless), reckless (more than "merely" careless), or intentionally caused you to crash. Causing a crash under those circumstances can make that person liable, or financially responsible, for all losses, costs, and damage you suffered, such as: repair costs, or the value of the car, if it must be totalled; towing charges; renting a replacement car for a reasonable period while your car is repaired or replaced; lost wages, if you missed work due to this; medical costs, if you had to go the doctor or hospital.
