If I was having relations with a married woman and her husband caught us, should I get legal representation if he has told me that I will be tied up in court for months, if not years?

He should not be able to sue you there is no lawsuit for "alienation of affection" or otherwise for having an affair with a married woman, in D.C. The law does not recognize grounds to sue someone for this.
However, if he brings a divorce action, you can and presumably will be a witness, and can be deposed, can be forced to testify, etc.
So you should not need an attorney to protect your own interests, but do expect that you will likely be a witness in court.
