I don't know that it will help all that much, but it certainly won't hurt. If you need the program, do it for yourself, that's reason enough.
What will help the most will be having an attorney when you go into court. He or she will know how to use the AA meetings to best make sure that you get a minimum sentence if you're found guilty; if there's any way to avoid being found guilty, that's part of the job as well.
