Electricity Dispute. Please can you advise on how I can get my name off the electric bill so that I am no longer liable for any unpaid amounts?
My ex-partner and myself were tenants and received a final bill of $333. I paid all previously monthly direct debits. She got added on the bill via faxing over the tenancy contract. I have paid my half of the bill. She is now refusing to pay her half. The evidence of my payments thoughout the year can be provided. Ihave also paid all the rent which also can be proven. I had previously been misinformed by the electric company that the bill can be split; now they say that it cannot. She hasn't paid any part of the final bill. Please can you advise. Many thanks.
If yoiu were on the bill, the company can hold you accountable for the full amount (just as they could hold your ex-partner accountable for the full amount). There is no way to retroactively remove your name and liability from the bill, though if your ex-partner was on the bill and is not paying her share, you may sue her for it.
