Can landlord call a tenant's employer to find out if the tenant can paythe next months rent?
Can they? As if is anyone stopping them? Sure. Should they? No, it is inappropriate. Is it illegal? Probably not, but that depends really on the facts. The real question is what information is the employer permitted to give out to anyone regarding you and your ability to pay, which should be none here. If the landlord were a judgement creditor then he would have certain rights under the law to information and proceedings that would locate assets to collect on the judgement. But it appears that your landlord has skipped this important step here. He is, though, possibly harassing you. I would write him a letter requesting that he cease from contacting your employer and placing you in a position to be fired from your job. If he does not stop seek information on a restraining order. Good luck.
