Who do I contact if I was hit by an uninsured driver?
Question Details: A girl hit me; she is the owner of the car and has a permit. However, since she does not have insurance, I can't get a settlement from her. I was driving Lyft at the time and I don't have collision on my personal insurance so they left me out to dry. I'm not really hurt but I'm losing money. I rented a car because I thought that I would be reimbursed. I haven't driven Lyft in about 3 weeks.
Since you don't have uninsured motorist coverage, your only recourse is to sue the at-fault party for negligence.
Depending on the amount of your damages (monetary compensation you are seeking in your lawsuit), you may be able to file your lawsuit in small claims court. A monetary judgment in your favor can be enforced with a wage garnishment.
