What options are there for a child who was brought to the U.S. illegally in obtaining legal status?
Question Details: I have a student who was brought here illegally by his parents. He has lived the majority of his life in the U.S. He is anxious now that he is approaching his 18th birthday that he may not have any options for obtaining legal status or gaining citizenship, which are things he wants to get.
If he is not yet 18, then he needs to consult with an immigration attorney asap and leave the US before he turns 18 so that there are no doors closed to him for future immigration issues. Once he turns 18, many doors will be closed to legalizing his status within the US if he entered the US unlawfully.
