What kind of lawyer/paralegal should I contact for analysis and review of a non-exotic contract for a reasonable fee?
Question Details: I am a retired pharma salesperson who is interested in contract sales 1099. When I went to a lawyer for a quote on what it would cost me to have it reviewed, I about fell off my chair. From my lay perspective, these contracts do not appear to be exotic in nature. I just don't want to trust my eyes only or leave it to my own interpretation. Perhaps, there could be something in there that would put me at risk, but I just don't know the subtleties of legal verbiage. You get the idea. Oh yes, and initially went to the law firm that we use for wills, etc., and he sort of backed away, saying that he did not have much experience in that area. Is there no happy medium? I would have thought that most any lawyer could accurately read and interpret a business contract. I am, at this point, perplexed.
Ideally, hire an attorney who handles contracts, business transactions,or business disputes in this industry--you want someone with a base knowledge of what goes on in this field, so they will know the potential issues. Shop around for an attorney: lawyers vary widely in what they charge. For example: I do a lot of landlord-tenant law. I will handle a simple eviction for $300 - $450, while a lawyer in my building doing the same thing charges $850 and up.
