What is a reasonable amount of time to notify someone to pickup their property?
Question Details: I have a question pertaining to a friend that left his property in my dorm room. The agreement was to let him leave his boxes in the room over the summer. Now that summer is coming to an end and I do not foresee him coming to retrieve his property. What is a reasonable amount of time to demand that he pickup his belongings? Is a text message a sufficient method of written notice? I cannot determine the value of the items because they are in boxes.
Wait until the "end of summer," since that was the agreement--i.e. until summer's over, he's not violated his agreement. Once summer is over, give him thirty days and state that if he does not pick up the belongings by then, you will put them out for trash. Send the message by ways you can prove delivery--preferably more than one way--and if sent electronically, print out and keep hardcopy, too.
