Who is responsible for student loan debt in a divorce?
Question Details: My wife and I have been married less than 3 years but she is threatening divorce. I was wondering if I will get stuck with half of her massive student loan debt, even if they have been in deferment since before we were married because she is still a full-time student?
Colorad is NOT a community property (which could also be called "community debt") state. Her debt is her debt, not yours; you would only be resposible for it if you cosigned for it or otherwise guarateed its repayment, since then you contractually agreed to be responsible for it.
