Must my employer provide me with a write-up?
Question Details: I was written up for tardiness. However, I was late once and by no more than 5 minutes, so I don't feel that the write-was fair. What are my rights?
Actually, you don't have a right to see a copy of the write-up, that is unless it must be provided pursuant to the terms of an employment contract or union agreement. The fact is that a business can set the conditions of employment much as it sees fit, absent some form of legally actionable discrimination. So unless you think that your treatment was the result of your race, religion, age (over 40), disability, gender or nationality, it is legal.
