Is it my responsibility for me to have an accident report changed because the officer didn't understand north from south and that makes the whole diagram wrong?

You can't change the report unless the officer is willing to correct it: it is his or her report, not yours, and even if it is incorrect, you have no right to alter it or dictate its contents. What you can and should do is contact the officer, experess your misgivings, and see if he or she will amend or revise it.
