How will an out-of-state traffic violation affect my license?
Question Details: I was pulled over in VA on I-81 S for going 81 in a 65. The officer wrote me a ticket for "Failure to Obey Highway Sign". I am aware that he has already granted me a huge break, because I was told going over 80 in Virginia is a mandatory court appearance and I believe is considered reckless driving. If I pay it online and accept the guilty plea, how will this affect my PA driving record? I have seen online that points will not transfer under certain violations, and I am wondering where this lies. Also, is there any realistic way to handle this where my insurance would not increase. I am 20 and have had my license for 4 years with no previous violations.
The points should transfer, or at least, you should be assessed the number of points in PA that you would get for failuere to obey a highway sign. All states are members of a "compact" or agreement under which they share driving violation in formation and honor each other's tickets.
Given that you are already being given a very minor infraction to plead to, paying and accepting whatever points PA may assign is probably the best choice: you are unlikely to do better than that by appearing.
