If my "husband's" divorce from his first wife is only now going through, what do we do?

Question Details: My husband and I got married about 2 years ago. He was married before and filed for divorce. He honestly thought that the divorce from his first wife was finalized. However, when he tried to add me to his VA insurance, they informed him that he was still married to the first wife. He has refiled the divorce and it is almost final. Do he and I have to "divorce" to remarry after his divorce from her or can we just get another marriage license in the same state, showing proof of his divorce from the first wife? I understand that legally our marriage is not valid, but we want to do it right this time. Hopefully, we don't have to "divorce" and remarry.
