Can my friend help me in the process of drawing up my own divorce?

My friend has knowledge in the process since she did her own. so is there anything illegal about her helping me in the step by step process, since I can not afford an attorney to do it for me?

Yes, it is illegal, because if she advises you in a legal case (the divorce) or about your legal rights, she is rendering legal advice; but only an attorney may offer legal advice. For her to help you with your divorce filing or settlement, etc. would be for her to engage in the unauthorized practice of law, which is illegal.
