In your state (California), you have up to three years from when you discovered that you suffered either physical injury or illness or pyschological illness/damage the abuse. So if you can show (e.g. with therapist testimony) that you suffered psychological harm (e.g. "how much it screwed up my life") and did so within three years of filing the lawsuit, you should be able to sue.
