You can recover for reasonably foreseeable out of pocket costs not paid by insurance, like a deductible, rental of a similar car for a reasonable time while your car is repaired, towing or other direct costs, etc. You cannot recover for more than one day of missed work typically (e.g. the day of the accident or the day after, if you could not get in because you had take care of the car and rent a vehicle), because there are so many transportation options now (mass transit, Uber, Lyft, car or ride shares, cabs, renting a car) that it is not reasonable that it would more than 1 day to figure out how to get to work.
