I was forced to resign or be fired. I was told to hand in my keys and a letter
of resignation. After turning in my keys, I was told to give the passwords to
the person who made me resign or be fired. The place of employment was a church.

Yes you are. The passwords were a part of your job and therefore belong to your fomer employer. You can face legal action if you do not comply.
