I live in Colorado and I work at a small, private owned gas station that tends to remain short staffed pretty regularly. You are owed overtime under CO and federal law whenever:
1) You work more than 40 hours in one week.
2) You work more than 12 hours consecutively (in a row) without a break.,
3) You work more than 12 hours in one workday. A workday can be defined by the employer but must consistent. If you generally (your regular shifts) start at 3pm, then a workday for you would most likely be 3pm Day 1 to 2:59pm Day 2; if you work more than 12 hours in that time, you are owed overtime.
