If a company website says that I paid a bill but now they called saying I didn't pay the bill, do I have to pay it?
Question Details: I had a supplier that I was using and paid off all of the open bills 3 months ago but now they are saying that I didn't pay 1 of the bills. Their company site still says that the invoice is paid. The person from the company that called me said that was simply a computer glitch. Do I need to pay them? The company in question is a fortune 500 company.
Did you pay? That's the only real issue. It doesn't matter what their website says--it could be wrong, and if it is wrong, that does not prevent them from seeking payment. You know what you: review your cancelled checks, bank statements, etc. If you paid the full amount, provide proof to them--once you've paid it, you don't need to pay it again. But if you have not paid it, then you will have to do so, no matter what the website says. Therefore, review your own payment records to resolve this mattter.
