Landlord wants to show the house I'm renting to potential renters while i still love here? Am I obligated by law to do so? Lease was up in May 2009
Question Details: Lease ran out in May 2009, landord wants to bring people here to potential renters while i still live here, I have two small children nad don't want strangers here... I have paid rent in full for the private use of this house until sept 1st, I've upheld all conditions of lease.
The landlord may indeed show other potential renters the home while you are still there. However, he or she has to be reasonable about it. That means giving you reasonable notice (usually taken to be at least one day); showing the home at reasonable hours (such as 1 pm, not 1am! or not at dinner time, or while you're getting ready for work); not showing it too often (there's no hard and fast rules, but 2 - 4 potential renters over a month when the lease is getting near the end, as yours is, is not unreasonable); and making sure the potential renters are minimally disruptive or intrusive and do not damage your belongings.
