Is a landlord held accountable if they are knowingly house a drug dealer in their apartment building and do nothing about it?
The landlord thinks he is not accountable for having to evict her.
A landlord is not accountable for evicting a known drug dealer in his or her rental. However, if the landlord knows that one of his or her tenants is a known drug dealer and a third party is injured as a result of drug dealing activities, the landlord could very well be held liable in a civil lawsuit for any injuries the third party may suffer depending upon the circumstances.
As a practical matter, if a landlord knowingly allows a drug dealer to traffic through his or her rental, the landlord is using poor judgment.
