What can I do if I paid for services that a contractor never rendered?
I hired a contractor; paid $8,000. Work was never started. Contractor was to waterproof the foundation around the house by breaking the concrete and dig all the way down to the footing and waterproof the walls, back filled and re-cement. Services were never done and I was not refunded for my money.
If you did not get what you contracted for you should send a letter to the contractor certified mail and ask that he come back to fix the work. If the contractor refuses to fix the work, then you need to hire a lawyer to file a lawsuit against the contractor. you also need to hire a new contractor to fix the work that the initial contractor should have performed correctly. Your damages will be the difference between what you pay the new contractor and what you paint the initial contractor. I suggest that you hire a lawyer to help you with this claim so that the contractor takes this serious. You should look up the contractor's name and find out if he was licensed by the state as the failure to be licensed can get you in a lot of trouble with the state. Applying pressure to the contractor can get him to come back to fix the work.
