Will I be extradited for not showing up for a contempt case regarding back child support?
I was supposed to go to court in PA on 10/26 for contempt of not paying child support. I moved to GA and all I want to do is pay of the $2800 suspended amount. Since I didn't go will they issue a warrant, and will they extradite me? Also, if I get a job will they find me via my SS#? If so, will they come pick me up or will they just garnish my wages? Once the amount is paid will they lift the warrant? Please help me I cannot find these answers anywhere.
You have many questions packed in to this. I will try and answer them one at a time.
First, yes, if you failed to show up for the hearing the Judge can issue a warrant and that is probably the way it will go for you. What may happen is next time you are stopped for something as small as running a traffic light they will run your info and take you in for an outstanding warrant. Can they send you back to PA? Yes, they can.
If there is a Judgement against you for back child support and it is filed correctly yes, they can find you when you get a job and garnish your salary.
You seem to want to make things right. I would suggest that you go and see an attorney who can help you. They can contact the court in PA and negotiate your payment of the back child support and the issue of the warrant and contempt matter. You may have to appear in PA but being the first to take the steps necessary to make it right is in your favor. He/she can even negotiate you coming to court without being handcuffed - which is what would happen if you got arrested. Good luck.
