What are the steps I need to take to become bonded?
I need to get bonded as a painter so I can start my own business. I am a convicted felon.

Are you sure that you need to be bonded or just get insurance for your business? Usually a business becomes "bonded" because the contracts that they are bidding on requires that. Usually government contracts require that a party be bonded. If you do need a bond you need to decide what type of bond that will be: a surety or fidelity bond. For either you will need to fill out an application and on that application you will list that you have a felony conviction. Some companies do not bond felons and some companies will make that determination based upon the type of felony conviction they are dealing with. I am going to put in a link here that may help.
