If someone writes me a bad check, am I responsible for bounced check charges?
I did work for a lady; the first checks she wrote to me were good but the last 4 were not.

The bank will charge you the over fee drafts on your account and the bank will be permitted to do that. The lady writing the checks may be prosecuted for knowingly issuing bad checks. If you write a check that you know has insufficient funds to cover the check you are not permitted to write the check. I suggest that you speak to the lady that you did the work for and let her know that her checks did not clear. If she wants to make this situation right, she should pay for the over draft fees that you had to incur and pay the amount due to you for the work that you performed under the agreement you had. If she fails to pay you, notify the police of the bad checks and sue her in civil court for breach of contract.
