Can you cut down an Oak tree in the state of california?
Question Details: There is a big oak tree in our backyard its trunk is about 5 feet wide. The tree makes our backyard look terrible and I wanted to know if we could have it cut down because I heard there are huge penalties involved with cutting down an oak tree in California. What would I need to cut down an oak tree in California?
I'm not a California attorney, but my research suggests that there isn't any such law state-wide. There are several local ordinances, including both the city and county of Los Angeles. Check with your local government, to be sure that you are allowed to remove the tree, and to find out if you need any sort of permit.
