Can a landlord kick you out if your rent is late?
Question Details: In between jobs; sent a letter to our landlord stating that we could only pay part of our rent since we just got two jobs each and they sent us a letter saying we had 5 days to pay the rest or they will sue us and they post dated the letter so we only have 3 days is that legal?

I am a lawyer in CT and practice in this area of the law. Unfortunately, the landlord is permitted to evict you if you failed to pay the rent on time. The landlord however, must go through the legal process to remove you from the property. I suggest talking tot he landlord face to face and explain that you do not intend to miss another payment and see if he will work with you.
