Can a felon be licensed to sell insurance in Michigan?
Question Details: I have been convicted of a DUI-related felony and would like to know if I can be licensed to sell insurance in Michigan.
If that's the only problem on your record, there's a fair chance that you can get the insurance license (if you pass the test, of course!), because that's not a crime of dishonesty, which is usually the main concern in this situation. If you had walked away from a lot of debt by going through bankruptcy, it would probably be a larger problem here.
You have to be a person of "good moral character" to get the license, and I think it's pretty clear that a DUI-related conviction is one that can't be used against you here because it is "unrelated to the person's likelihood to serve the public in a fair, honest, and open manner." MCL 338.43(c).
