I am a lawyer from CT and practice in thie area of the law. The executor has a fiduciary duty to the estate to act in its best interests. If the executor is making a gift pursuant to some instruction by the will then selling the car or gifting it for $1 is ok. however, if there estate has debt and should be selling the car to make money for the estate to pay a creditor, then gifting the car or selling it for $1 may be a problem as the estate is being deprived of a benefit. I suggest contacting a lawyer to determine the estate's obligations and whether it is ok to dispose of the car.
